## AP® Calculus AB

**AP® Calculus AB Course Description:**

The prerequisite for this course is Pre-Calculus with a clear understanding of the unit circle. Calculus is the study of change and motion. Our problems "move" which makes the study of Calculus exciting and engaging. We discuss limits, derivatives, applications of the derivative, integrals and their applications, and an introduction to differential equations. I follow the same learning objectives as the College Board AP® Calculus AB course, which equates to a semester long Calculus I course at most colleges and universities. We have the opportunity to learn the material over the entire school year thus giving students the time needed to master the concepts. We meet with the Calculus I class to learn content on Tuesdays/Thursdays then we meet on selected Wednesdays to focus our attention to the actual AP® Calculus AB exam. We discuss previous years' free response questions, multiple choice and general test-taking skills for taking an Advanced Placement exam. If your student chooses to take the Advanced Placement test in May, students can receive usually 3-4 hours of college credit for Calculus I upon a successful exam. Colleges and universities vary on what they accept as a "passing" score and how many hours they grant. Often it is dependent upon what is the student's intended major. This course is a wonderful way to prepare your student for the rigor of college mathematics.
