Consumer Math
(Prerequisite: Algebra I)
Consumer Math Course Description
High School Math Live uses the Glencoe Mathematics with Business Applications book for this course. The prerequisite for Consumer Math is a successful completion of Algebra I. Students can take this course as a math credit or as an elective credit while taking another math course. In Consumer Math, students will learn to make wise financial decisions through instruction about budgeting, banking, interest, savings accounts, loans, and credit cards. Also included are lessons on the costs of transportation, food, clothing, housing, and more. Students will learn about Federal Income Tax laws, running a business, and investing in Stocks and Bonds. Students will learn to use their math skills to make wise choices with money management. This is a very practical course covering a combination of economics and consumer math and is perfect for students who like to know, "Why do I need to learn this?"
