About Mrs. Rodriguez
Hello! I wanted to provide a little background about myself and my education and career path. After graduating high school in Houston Tx, I completed a year of college and then decided to take a break and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After my tour in the Air Force and being discharged to the Texas Air National Guard, I returned to Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in Huntsville, Tx to complete my BBA degree in accounting. Upon graduating, I worked as an accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor for thirteen years until I was called into the teaching field. I returned yet again to SHSU to focus on middle school mathematics and obtain my Texas mathematics teaching certificate for grades 4-8. I worked in the middle school classroom for 5 years and was asked to move up to the high school level. I became certified for grades 9-12 and taught Algebra and Geometry classes. During this time, I also completed a Masters Degree program in Education Administration. I retired from classroom teaching in 2023 and started working part time with Sylvan Learning Center, tutoring students in middle school, Algebra, and Geometry.
My husband and I live in a rural community about 60 miles north of Houston. He is retired from the military, but is still working in a “civilian” job. Together we have five amazing children, three of which graduated from Texas A&M. Our eldest daughter has three of our grandchildren and is living in Corpus Christi. Our eldest son, recently married in 2024, is a software programmer in Houston. Our youngest daughter just moved to Nashville,Tennessee after graduating with her BSN and is a practicing nurse in a pediatric hospital. We also have a daughter in Maine and another son in Dallas. Beside spending time with our growing family, my husband and I love to travel with our trailer and visit national and state parks. I also enjoy painting, water aerobics, and hiking.
Teaching math to students has been a great joy for me! After retiring from classroom teaching, I came to realize how much I missed working with students. Then when working remotely with Sylvan, I discovered how much I loved the on-line teaching model, building connections with students and helping students achieve their educational goals. This will be my first year with HSML and I am so excited to be part of this community and to be able to work with homeschool and charter school families. I am looking forward to working with your child this coming school year and I know we will have a great year.
