2019 Summer School
PreAlgebra
PreAlgebra Course Description
High School Math Live PreAlgebra uses the Glencoe Mathematics PreAlgebra textbook. This course helps students transition into a teachertaught class with accountability and weekly grades. We reinforce the concepts they have learned, increase comprehension, and begin teaching early algebraic concepts. We prepare students so that Algebra will make sense! PreAlgebra is generally for honorslevel 7th grade or onlevel 8th grade students. (If a student plans to take Calculus I in high school, they should register for this class in the 7th grade.)
Topics include: operations with integers, solving equations with integers, factors, operations with fractions/rational numbers, positive and negative exponents, scientific notation, ratios, proportions and percents, solving equations with rational numbers, solving inequalities and graphing solutions on the number line, functions, graphing linear equations, angle and triangle categorization, square roots, the Pythagorean Theorem, the Distance and MidPoint formulas.

How can I determine if my student will be successful in this summer course?
High School Math Live wants your student to be placed in the appropriate course so that they will be successful and challenged while learning the beauty of mathematics. We are asking that your student complete our "PreAlgebra Course Preparedness" document which we believe will be a good indicator of whether your student is ready for this course. You will email your student's work to the teacher. Details are on the course preparedness document.
This summer class is for the student who has done well on the Course Preparedness Document and falls into one of the following situations.
This summer class is for the student who has done well on the Course Preparedness Document and falls into one of the following situations.
Students who are highly capable in math and can handle the rigorous pace. These students find math to be very intuitive and would like to advance to upper level coursework at a faster pace.
Students who have completed all or most of the course previously but not at a level that makes a parent confident that their student is ready to progress to the next course. This would be an excellent fastpaced review and gapfiller!
