2021 Summer School
Geometry
Geometry Course Description
Geometry includes all topics in a typical high school geometry course along with formal proofs: lines and angles, congruence, parallel lines, area, perimeter, similarity, right triangle trigonometry, circles, geometric solids, and non-Euclidean geometries. Students learn how to apply and calculate measurements of lengths, heights, circumference, areas, and volumes. In addition, students build on this inductive foundation by developing and applying logical deductive thought to develop proof patterns and mathematical arguments. Through guided discovery, the student will work with key geometry theorems and proofs with the focus on the development of critical thinking skills.
Important: Geometry includes a review of basic algebra skills throughout the course and is designed to be taken between the two Algebra courses. The material in Algebra II should be freshly taught to a student entering Pre-Calculus; going from Geometry to Pre-Calculus could be a difficult transition. Thus, HSML strongly recommends the following order of courses: Algebra I - Geometry - Algebra II - Pre-Calculus.

How can I determine if my student will be successful in this summer course?
High School Math Live wants your student to be placed in the appropriate course so that they will be successful and challenged while learning the beauty of mathematics. We are asking that your student complete our "Geometry Course Preparedness" document which we believe will be a good indicator of whether your student is ready for this course. You will email your student's work to the teacher. Details are on the course preparedness document.
This summer class is for the student who has done well on the Course Preparedness Document and falls into one of the following situations.
This summer class is for the student who has done well on the Course Preparedness Document and falls into one of the following situations.
- Students who are highly capable in math and can handle the rigorous pace. These students find math to be very intuitive and would like to advance to upper level coursework at a faster pace.
- Students who have completed all or most of the course previously but not at a level that makes a parent confident that their student is ready to progress to the next course. This would be an excellent fast-paced review and gap-filler!
