It is crucial that your student either attends each class "live" or listens to the class recording. We cover new material during each class period thus our pace is brisk. Staying current in a mathematics class is imperative since each class builds from the previous one. Once a student gets behind, it is very difficult to "catch up" on concepts.
If your student cannot attend a class, we do record them so that they can viewed on a computer or smart phone. We have students who have schedule conflicts who are very successful watching the recordings. We encourage students who are watching a recorded class to take notes and to "answer questions" posed in class as they watch the recording. It is extremely important that students take notes as if they were in class. If the absence is known prior to class, we encourage parents to notify the teacher and have your student email their homework questions so the teacher can discuss them in the class and the student will hear the explanation when they watch the recording. Even students who are present in class often watch the recording again later for assistance with homework problems.
As part of HSML attendance, the student should be completing the assigned homework. Students should check the work by answers/solutions provided and have their questions ready for the next class. Completion of homework is the pathway to success, especially in a mathematics class.
