I am a teaching veteran of 33 years, with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education in Secondary Mathematics from the University of Georgia. I taught high school mathematics in public schools in Georgia for four years. I also coached the Academic Team for competitions and the Parliamentary Procedure Team with the Future Business Leaders of America.
In 1990 my first daughter was born, and I became a stay-at- home mother. Our family grew with another daughter born in 1991, a son in 1994, and another son in 1998. I taught my four children from pre-school through twelfth grade. All four graduated from the Academy of Home Education through Bob Jones University with honors, which was earned by scoring in the top 10% nationally on the ACT test. My pictures are from three graduations, one son from high school and the other from college. This summer my oldest daughter got married and my older son earned his Masters Degree in Automotive Engineering from Clemson University. He will be getting married in October.
Since I left full time teaching, I have tutored many students from public, private, and homeschools, including teaching homeschool co-op classes. I specialize in general math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, and consumer math.
I have tested many groups of homeschool students using the IOWA achievement tests, and I am an approved tester with BJU Press for both the Stanford and Iowa achievement tests. I also tutor for the math sections of the ACT and SAT tests.
Now that my children are grown, I have more time to devote to teaching and tutoring students in mathematics. While I enjoyed teaching in the classroom, I enjoy meeting the individual needs of the student in one-on- one tutoring. I can adapt my teaching methods to the individual, and continue to teach a concept until it is mastered.
