About Mrs. Jones
I am a certified, teaching veteran of over 30 years, with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education in Secondary Mathematics from the University of Georgia. I taught high school mathematics in public schools in Georgia for four years. I also coached the Academic Team for competitions and the Parliamentary Procedure Team with the Future Business Leaders of America.
When my first daughter was born, I became a stay-at-home mother. I taught my four children from preschool through twelfth grade. All four graduated from the Academy of Home Education through Bob Jones University with honors, which was earned by scoring in the top 10% nationally on the ACT test. All of my children graduated from Bob Jones University. My daughters also earned Masters in Biblical Counseling from Bob Jones University. In 2018 my older daughter got married, my older son earned his Masters Degree in Automotive Engineering from Clemson University, and he got married. In 2019 I was blessed with my first granddaughter. In 2020 we had another wedding and another college graduation. My first grandson was born right after our 2021-2022 school year ended. My second granddaughter was born in October 2022. My youngest graduated in May 2023 from Liberty University with a Master of Science in Athletic Training. Keeping up with the Jones family keeps me busy!!
Since I left full time teaching, I have tutored many students from public, private, and homeschools, including teaching homeschool co-op classes. I specialize in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, consumer math, and college algebra. I also tutor for the math sections of the ACT and SAT tests.
Now that my children are grown, I have more time to devote to teaching and tutoring students in mathematics. While I enjoyed teaching in the classroom, I enjoy meeting the individual needs of the student in one-on-one tutoring. I can adapt my teaching methods to the individual, and continue to teach a concept until it is mastered. My students can tell you that I will even sing silly songs to help them remember important concepts! My three-year-old granddaughter loves the "Quadratic Formula Song". It is to the tune of "Pop Goes The Weasel". This summer I babysat her and her one-year-old brother. One of their toys has a piano keyboard, and the red key plays "Pop Goes The Weasel". She would push it and say "Sing your song, Mimi!" By the end of the week she was able sing it all by herself!! She sometimes changes the last part from "all over 2a" to "all over two apples" because she has learned that "a is for apple" in her preschool. If I can teach the Quadratic Formula to a three-year-old, I am sure that I can help your students learn and love math!!
I joined High School Math Live in February 2018 as the tutor. In addition to tutoring and Brush Up Math workshops, I teach AMP Pre-Algebra and Algebra I, and Geometry. I taught Consumer Math from 2018 - 2020.
