About Mrs. Ellis
Hi! I have lived on the south side of Houston for most of my life. I graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with a focus in mathematics for junior high, including Algebra 1. I hold a lifetime Texas teaching certificate, and I have been teaching for a total of 20 years. After teaching both elementary in Fort Bend ISD and junior high math in Dickinson ISD, I took some time off to stay home with my children. During this time, I began tutoring students of all ages in math, 3rd grade through college algebra, and I enjoyed helping them to build confidence and become successful in math. I also had the privilege of homeschooling my oldest 3 children for one year. I found High School Math Live last year, and this will be my second year teaching online. I have absolutely loved getting to know the groups of students I am teaching, and it has been exciting to see how much growth they have made.
My husband and I still live south of Houston with our five children, who are currently 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 years old. We were flooded in Hurricane Harvey, and most of our time over the last couple years has been spent putting our house back together. We are beginning the process of planting a church at this time as well.
I absolutely love math! I come from a family of educators who invested in me and taught me to love learning in so many creative ways every day. I believe this is why I enjoy math so much, and I have made it my goal over the last 20 years to help students love learning as well. I love the logic of math, and I love the feeling I get when I have solved a tough problem! My greatest joy in teaching is when I can see a student get to the place where they develop a sense of confidence in math. I am constantly looking for new ideas to help explain things in a way that makes sense, and I believe that my experience teaching a wide range of ages and levels gives me the ability to help all students become successful regardless of any previous struggles they may have had in math. It would be a privilege to share my love for math with your child this year!

I love Mrs. Ellis! She is encouraging and does a great job explaining the material in a way that I can understand it.
Thank you for taking the time to help me! It makes so much more sense now! I have never been good at math, but you made it seem easy. |
Rhonda is a delight! My daughter dreaded math and was not succeeding. For the first time in her life, she actually likes math and is doing really well!
Our son has sometimes struggled in math. This is our first year with HSML and the first year he has truly enjoyed math! His confidence keeps growing and this makes my heart smile. She cares about her students and what they are learning. I feel she genuinely desires their success and communicates that to them well. Mrs. Ellis has been very patient, understanding, and kind. She makes sure she’s available if the kids have questions. |
