About Mrs. Ellis
Hi! I have lived on the south side of Houston for most of my life. I graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with a focus in mathematics for junior high, including Algebra 1. I hold a lifetime Texas teaching certificate, and I have been teaching for a total of 25 years. After teaching both elementary in Fort Bend ISD and junior high math in Dickinson ISD here in Texas, I took some time off to stay home with my children. During this time, I began tutoring students of all ages in math, 3rd grade through college algebra, and I enjoyed helping them to build confidence and become successful in math. I joined High School Math Live in 2018, and this will be my seventh year teaching online. I have absolutely loved getting to know the groups of students I am teaching, and it has been exciting to see how much growth they have made.
My husband and I still live south of Houston with our six children, who are currently 3, 8, 11, 13, 15, and 17. This is the best photo I have of our entire family right now. Taking a photo with 6 young children is harder than I thought! We are also just entering the life of parenting multiple teenagers and a 3 year old at the same time! Exciting new adventures are ahead for our family. :)
I absolutely love math! I come from a family of educators who invested in me and taught me to love learning in so many creative ways every day. I believe this is why I enjoy math so much, and I have made it my goal over the last 24 years to help students love learning as well. I love the logic of math, and I love the feeling I get when I have solved a tough problem! My greatest joy in teaching is when I can see a student get to the place where they develop a sense of confidence in math. I am constantly looking for new ideas to help explain things in a way that makes sense, and I believe that my experience teaching a wide range of ages and levels gives me the ability to help all students become successful regardless of any previous struggles they may have had in math. It would be a privilege to share my love for math with your child this year!

I love Mrs. Ellis! She is encouraging and does a great job explaining the material in a way that I can understand it.
Thank you for taking the time to help me! It makes so much more sense now! I have never been good at math, but you made it seem easy. I really enjoyed this lesson! It's so much fun. The new method you taught us is my new best friend! |
Rhonda is a delight! My daughter dreaded math and was not succeeding. For the first time in her life, she actually likes math and is doing really well!
Mrs. Ellis' clear teaching coupled with her concern for all of her students is a major factor why both of my students are getting above a 90% in her class. Mrs. Ellis teaches in a way that all students understand the concept. Mrs. Ellis creates an unthreatening ambiance with her personality and communicates in a way that makes math fun and not intimidating. I appreciate her experience in teaching math. She certainly knows what math concepts might be challenging and patiently spends time explaining them to her students. I am very grateful that Mrs. Ellis is my child's math teacher. :) Mrs. Ellis is an excellent math teacher! She is so encouraging and does a great job teaching each lesson. My daughter looks forward to class with Mrs. Ellis. We are having a great experience with my daughter's first online math class. Thank you HSML and Mrs. Ellis! Our son has sometimes struggled in math. This is our first year with HSML and the first year he has truly enjoyed math! His confidence keeps growing and this makes my heart smile. Mrs. Ellis has taught both of my children. She has laid a solid foundation for their math learning. Rhonda Ellis is a kind and accessible teacher who genuinely cares about her students and communicates in a warm and effective manner. She cares about her students and what they are learning. I feel she genuinely desires their success and communicates that to them well. Mrs. Ellis has been very patient, understanding, and kind. She makes sure she’s available if the kids have questions. Mrs. Ellis is very helpful and patient with my student to explain any problems that need a bit of extra help. She seems to be in tune with each student and where they may need extra help. She lets parents know promptly if there are any issues. |
