Course Description:
This course is designed only for students who have have completed either Calculus I or AP® Calculus AB and are ready for the challenge of learning Calculus II concepts and preparing for the AP® Calculus BC exam. Students will learn the content during the fall semester and first few weeks of spring semester using recorded lessons. After that, using a live classroom format meeting on TTh, students will focus solely on preparing for the College Board AP® Calculus BC Exam and will include a review of AP® Calculus AB material. Students can receive usually 6-8 hours of college credit for Calculus I and Calculus II upon a successful exam. The AP® Calculus BC exam covers BOTH AB and BC content. Students will receive an AB score AND a BC score. Colleges and universities vary on what they accept as a "passing" score and how many hours they grant. Often it is dependent upon the student's intended major.
Our learning objectives are primarily focused on the AP® Calculus BC (Calculus II) content, which equates to a semester long Calculus II course at most colleges and universities. Our course begins with further exploration of L'Hospital's Rule and additional integration techniques. Then we will move our discussions to sequences and series including Taylor and Maclaurin Series and learn how to represent functions as power series. Euler's Method, logistic growth models, parametric curves, vectors, polar curves will also be discussed. Even though we cover a college level course over an entire school year, the pace is still brisk. This is a challenging course that uses a college level textbook, written by James Stewart, which includes all the necessary concepts to prepare for a rigorous college calculus class and/or the AP exam.

Fall Semester for AP® Calculus BC
- Lessons are recorded. Students take notes and send in a PDF of notes with their weekly assessment.
- Students complete weekly HW practice. Students will have access to written solutions as well as a solution recording going through each homework problem. Students will send in a PDF of HW practice with their weekly assessment.
- Students will have weekly assessments, quiz or a test. These will be graded, and feedback provided.
- Starting in October, students will have a weekly AP practice to turn in.
- Students can send in their questions, and the teacher will answer via their personal OneNote file.
- Students will have 2 hours of personal tutoring time with the teacher. Any additional tutoring that is needed, the student can purchase tutoring sessions. Students are required to send in their notes and HW practice before any tutoring session takes place.
Spring Semester AP® Calculus BC Students (This semester is heavily devoted to preparation of the AP exam.)
- The first 5 weeks will be similar to the fall semester. Students have weekly assessments and have access to 1 hour of personal tutoring time. Notes and HW scans will be submitted with their weekly assessment.
- Starting in the 6th week of this semester, students will meet in a live class format for 90 minutes two days/week. Our time will be focused on preparing for the AP® Calculus BC Exam. (TTh: 2:00-3:25 CST). It is possible to change this meeting time that would meet each student’s schedules and the teacher's. If a common time is not available, then the above time will be used, and students can watch the class recording if unable to attend the live classes.
